The Diploma in Dental nursing course combine lectures and classroom teaching with work placement in a dental practice which will enable you to acquire essential skills and confidence necessary to deal with both members of the public and dental professionals.

• If you are already working in a dental practice and would like to become a qualified dental nurse.
This course has been developed to meet the statutory requirements of the General Dental Council to enable you to register and work as a qualified dental nurse in the UK.

Career progression
Completion of this qualification can help you to progress within dental nursing, enabling completion of Post-Registration courses such as: 

  • Radiography
  •  Oral Health Education
  • Sedation Nursing
  • Implant Nursing
  • Orthodontic Nursing 
  • Fluoride Application

Candidates may also progress into other roles of dentistry such as:
Tutor • Witness or Mentor • Practice manager • Dental technician • Dental hygienist • Dental therapist • Dentist

Diploma in Dental Nursing Skills

The course covers the new NEBDN syllabus and includes those areas of knowledge and understanding which a dental nurse needs to develop in order to be able to practice competently. These include:

  • Module 1: Professionalism and the Role of the Dental Nurse
  • Module 2: Health and Safety
  • Module 3: Dealing with Medical Emergencies
  • Module 4: General, Dental and Regional Anatomy
  • Module 5: Oral Disease
  • Module 6: Prevention of Oral Disease
  • Module 7: Assessment
  • Module 8: Restorative Dentistry
  • Module 9: Child Dental Health
  • Module 10: Minor Oral Surgery
  • Module 11: Pain and Anxiety Control

The course also provides extensive preparation for the practical part of the new exam (OSCE), and support with preparing the required Record of Experience.  

There are no formal entry qualification but students are expected to be educated to good GCSE level or equivalent and have a good command of English language. Students are not admitted under the age of 18. Must be UK residence with evidence of right to work.
