NEBDN Regulated Diploma Now Launched — A New Era in Dental Nurse Training

The dental nursing profession is entering a new and exciting chapter. On the 1st of July 2025 the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) officially launched a fully regulated Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing—now recognised by Ofqual in England and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland. This milestone marks a significant improvement in training quality, credibility, and career prospects for aspiring dental nurses across the UK.

What’s New in the NEBDN Regulated Qualification?

The new Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing replaces the former National Diploma qualification for learners registering from 1 July 2025 onwards. Unlike its predecessor, this new qualification is fully regulated and carries even more value:

  • UCAS points included, making it easier to progress into higher education
  • Potentially eligible for government funding due to Ofqual recognition
  • General Dental Council (GDC)aligned curriculum based on the Safe Practitioner Framework
  • Revised and updated content and assessments including an online portfolio, knowledge test, and professional discussion

These changes bring dental nurse training in line with national education standards while offering learners a more structured, supported pathway into a registered healthcare profession.
