Dear [name of practice manager] or sir/madam,

I’m writing to express my interest in the Trainee Dental Nurse position you may have at your Practice.

I attach my CV and you will see from this that I have commenced my study for the National Diploma in Dental Nursing Level 3 with the School of Dental Nursing which will lead to NEBDN qualification. I am now keen to find a position in a dental practice so I can gain practical experience and knowledge and complete my Record of Experience.

If there are no suitable positions at present, can you please keep my details for any future roles of this nature that become available at your practice?

Many thanks for taking the time for reading my email.

Yours sincerely,

How to prepare for an employment interview

Why should we hire you as a trainee dental nurse?

This is the most common and frequently asked interview question. Here are three possible responses to answer this question like a professional:

1- I believe I have the combination of skills and a caring nature to excel in this role. I have a proven track record of successfully adapting to new environments, learning new skills quickly, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously. This makes me an outstanding candidate for this trainee dental nurse position.

2- As a potential trainee dental nurse I bring a flexible approach to problem-solving, and I am proactive in finding solutions.  I take personal responsibility for my work and hold a deep dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, which benefits the team and organisation. For these reasons, I believe I am a very suitable candidate for this position.

3- I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, which are essential for working in a patient care environment such as dentistry. Overall, I am confident in my ability to establish strong connections with both patients and colleagues, fostering a positive and efficient work environment. My commitment to care will make me an asset to this Dental Practice.

You should also practice these key questions before the interview:

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Why do you want to work with us?
  3. Why did you choose this career path?
  4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  5. How are you a suitable candidate for this role?

Three essential skills to obtain employment as a trainee:

  1. Communication skills – both verbally and non-verbally
  2. Adaptability skills – Be able to demonstrate/explain that you can adjust to new environments
  3.  Attention to details – Demonstrate that you have an eye for detail
  4. Try to think of examples to back up your general claims.
